Omaha Adult Entertainment: Shooting victim’s past troubled
Family members said they had heard that Benscoter was arguing with his live-in girlfriend earlier in the evening. The couple had been together about a year and had a 3-month-old son together, Blaise Jr.
Shelly Benscoter said her cousin had criminal problems in his past but was trying to move on. He had recently been hired for a new job.
“He really tried going down the right road after having the baby,” she said.
Benscoter had numerous stints in jail dating to 1999, when he was sentenced to 90 days for carrying a concealed weapon.
He served six months in jail in 2000 for possession of methamphetamine and six months in 2005 for domestic assault.
Shelly Benscoter said the family was in shock over the death and having a hard time dealing with it.
She noted that Benscoter’s cousin Colby Dandrow, 33, was slain in 2007. Dandrow was tortured to death over a debt he owed for drugs or prostitutes.
