Firing of Omaha firefighter in sex sting upheld
Associated Press – March 24, 2010 2:35 PM ET
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – Officials have upheld the firing of an Omaha fire captain who was arrested in a prostitution sting last year.
Omaha assistant city attorney Bernard Bosch says a grievance filed by Darren Bates over his firing was denied on Wednesday.
Bates was arrested in February 2009 at a Council Bluffs, Iowa, hotel and charged with soliciting a prostitute, but was found not guilty of the charge in May.
Bates had already been fired from the fire department when he was acquitted. He also was removed as president of the Omaha firefighters union.
Bates could not be reached at his Council Bluffs, Iowa, home on Wednesday for comment.
