Omaha Escorts: Legislators consider death certificates, taxes

LB 1123: This bill would create the Nebraska Healthy Food Financing Initiative Act. The act would establish a program of financial assistance to increase access to fresh fruits, vegetables and other nutritional foods in low-income or high-poverty areas. The Rural Development Commission would administer the act and the Legislature would appropriate $300,000 annually to the commission for the program, according to the bill. Sen. Brenda Council of Omaha introduced this bill, which had a public hearing on Feb. 14.
LB 1145: This bill includes several provisions that address human trafficking. If passed, the bill would create a commission to investigate and study human trafficking. Signs with the National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline phone number would have to be posted at locations that range from strip clubs to highway rest stops to hospitals to high schools. Victims of human trafficking could vacate a conviction of prostitution as well. Sen. Amanda McGill of Lincoln introduced the bill, which had a public hearing on Feb. 16. The Judiciary Committee designated the bill as one of its priority bills.
